High Availability IT for Tampa Bay Businesses

Backup

Nessco Tech Services6 min read

High availability means your systems stay running even when a component fails. It's not the same as backup — backup recovers data after loss; high availability prevents downtime in the first place.

High availability techniques:

- Redundant servers with automatic failover

- Load balancers distributing traffic across multiple servers

- Redundant power supplies and network paths

- Database replication to a secondary server

- UPS and generator power for critical infrastructure

Not every system needs high availability. Email and file servers often do; a rarely-used internal tool may not. The cost of redundancy should match the cost of downtime.

Single points of failure are the enemy. If one server, one switch, or one internet connection can take down your business, you don't have high availability — you have risk.
