Quarterly Test Restores for Business Backups
Untested backups are rumors — the 30-minute quarterly drill covering files, mailboxes, and full systems.
1. Restore one file, one mailbox, one folder monthly
Pick randomly: a file from last week, an email from last month, a SharePoint folder. Time each restore and log it. Patterns (always the mailbox failing) reveal the real gaps.
2. Run a full-system drill quarterly
Restore a workstation image to spare hardware or VM and boot it. File restores prove files; system restores prove you can actually resume work Monday morning.
3. Document results like an auditor watches
Date, what was restored, time taken, issues found. This log satisfies cyber-insurance questionnaires and turns 'trust us' into evidence.
