Delay Send in Outlook: Never Email Angry Again

The 2-minute rule for every message — delay, undo window, and scheduled sends across Outlook versions.

  1. 1. Delay all sends by 2 minutes

Outlook desktop → Rules → Manage Rules → New Rule → Apply to messages I send → defer delivery by 2 minutes. Every email now waits in Outbox, rescuable, while urgent ones still fly fast enough.

  2. 2. Schedule specific sends deliberately

Compose → Options → Delay Delivery → Do not deliver before. Friday 11pm drafts become Monday 8am arrivals. Respect inboxes and look disciplined doing it.

  3. 3. Know the web and mobile equivalents

Outlook web: Send dropdown → Send later. Mobile: limited — schedule from desktop or web. Rules only fire when Outlook desktop runs, so travelers should prefer per-message scheduling.

  • Mail flow rules needed org-wide (disclaimers, delayed compliance holds).
  • Someone's delayed mail never sends — profile or rule corruption.
  • Executive communications needing approval workflows before send.
