Track Changes Without the Redline Nightmare
Reviewing without rage — simple markup, locked tracking, and accepting changes like a professional.
1. Review in Simple Markup view
Review → Display for Review → Simple Markup. The document reads clean with margin bars marking changes — the redline soup is a view choice, not a requirement.
2. Lock tracking on for shared reviews
Review → Track Changes → Lock Tracking (with password). Reviewers' edits get recorded instead of silently applied — accountability without confrontation.
3. Accept in passes, then turn it off
Review → Next → Accept/Reject through the document, then turn tracking OFF for final polish. Shipping a document with tracking still on is the professional equivalent of spinach in teeth.
Track Changes Without the Redline Nightmare — When to Call a Pro
- Legal or contract workflows needing compare, combine, and audit trails.
- Template standardization so all office documents behave identically.
- SharePoint co-authoring conflicts on heavily edited files.
Guide FAQ
Review → Accept → Accept All Changes, then turn tracking off. Check with Simple Markup first so nothing hides.
Hover any markup for author and timestamp. For formal review, restrict editing to comments so all changes arrive as suggestions.
