MFA: Stop 99% of Attacks in 10 Minutes
Security
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) blocks nearly all password-based break-ins because even if an attacker steals credentials, they still cannot log in without a second factor.
For Tampa small businesses, the biggest risk is usually a Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace account compromise — often through phishing or password reuse on unrelated sites.
Setting up MFA is fast:
1. Enable security defaults in Microsoft 365 or enforce 2-step verification in Google Workspace
2. Use an authenticator app (Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator) rather than SMS — SIM swapping defeats text-message codes
3. Enroll every user, starting with administrators and finance staff
4. Register backup methods so a lost phone does not lock out your entire company
5. Add Conditional Access policies if you have Microsoft 365 Business Premium
Passkeys go a step further by removing passwords entirely for supported accounts. They are phishing-resistant because there is no code to intercept and no password to steal.
If you have not enabled MFA on every business email account today, start now. It is the single most effective security control you can deploy in under an hour.
