Google Workspace Security for Tampa Bay Businesses

Security

Nessco Tech Services5 min read

Google Workspace runs email, Drive, and collaboration for many Tampa Bay small businesses. Like Microsoft 365, it's a target — a compromised Google account gives attackers access to email, files, and contacts.

Google Workspace security basics:

- Enforce 2-step verification for every user, especially admins

- Use Google's security center to review sign-in risks and suspicious activity

- Set up data loss prevention rules for Drive and Gmail

- Configure OAuth app whitelisting so users can't grant risky third-party access

- Review shared Drive permissions regularly — data doesn't leave when employees do

App passwords and legacy access methods should be disabled where possible. Modern authentication with security keys or authenticator apps is stronger than SMS codes.

If your Google Workspace tenant was set up years ago and never reviewed, there are likely gaps worth closing.
