Caps Lock Reversed? Sticky Keys Did It

Typing opposite case, beeping on Shift presses — the accessibility toggle behind the madness.

  1. 1. Turn off Sticky Keys and Filter Keys

Settings → Accessibility → Keyboard → turn off Sticky keys, Filter keys, and Toggle keys. Five rapid Shifts enables Sticky Keys by 'designed accident' — the classic trigger is gaming or frustrated typing.

  2. 2. Reset the Caps Lock state cleanly

Press Caps Lock once deliberately, type a test line, then press Shift for capitals only. If case is still inverted per-key, check language layout (US vs international) next.

  3. 3. Disable the shortcut so it never returns

In Sticky Keys settings, uncheck 'Keyboard shortcut for Sticky Keys'. Future Shift-mashing stays silent. Also unplug any macro software or keyboard utilities that remap modifiers.

Caps Lock Reversed? Sticky Keys Did It — When to Call a Pro

  • Keys physically stuck or liquid-damaged — hardware, not settings.
  • Whole keyboard misbehaving across layouts — driver or board issue.
  • Accessibility setup genuinely needed — proper configuration visit.
