Download Your Entire Google Life With Takeout (Before You Need It)

Photos, mail, Drive in one archive — the export cadence that makes Google outages and lockouts non-events.

  1. 1. Run a Takeout export

takeout.google.com → Deselect all → tick Mail, Drive, Photos → choose .zip, 2GB splits → Create export. Big accounts take hours to days — Google emails when ready. Do this before any account change, not after.

  2. 2. Verify the archive opens

Download one part, open the MBOX mail file (Thunderbird reads them free) and spot-check photos. An unverified 80GB download is a hope, not an archive.

  3. 3. Store it in two places, repeat twice a year

External drive plus a second cloud (or drive at a colleague's off-site). Calendar a 6-month repeat — archives rot as life accumulates outside them.

Guide FAQ

Roughly your Google storage usage. A decade of Photos plus Drive commonly lands 50–200GB — plan drive space accordingly.
Nearly — Mail, Drive, Photos, Calendar, Contacts, YouTube. Some app data and settings don't export; the irreplaceable stuff does.
