Wi-Fi Direct Printing Without the Network
Guest laptop, dead router, conference room — print straight to the printer with no Wi-Fi middleman.
1. Enable Wi-Fi Direct on the printer
Printer network settings, Wi-Fi Direct, On. Note the DIRECT-xx network name and password on the display. The printer becomes its own hotspot — internet-free by design.
2. Join from the device and print
Connect the laptop or phone to the DIRECT network like any Wi-Fi, then print normally. Remember you are offline now — cloud documents must already be downloaded.
3. Rejoin real Wi-Fi after
Forget the DIRECT network when done, or devices will auto-join a printer with no internet next visit. Change the default DIRECT password — printed on a sticker is not security.
Wi-Fi Direct Printing Without the Network — When to Call a Pro
- Conference rooms needing permanent guest printing that just works.
- Wi-Fi Direct conflicts with office network policies.
- Mobile printing fleet (AirPrint, Mopria) configured properly.
Guide FAQ
Reasonably with a changed password for temporary use. Don't run it permanently alongside nothing else — it's a side door into the printer.
Direct connections use basic bands and the printer's weak radio. Fine for documents, painful for photo books — use the real network for those.
