Receipt Printer Keeps Failing? POS Printing Fixes

Kitchen tickets vanishing, cash drawer not popping, USB versus network printers at the counter.

  1. 1. Switch critical printers to network, not USB

Ethernet-connected receipt printers with static IPs survive register reboots and USB port roulette. USB printers die with their host PC; network printers serve the whole counter.

  2. 2. Fix the cash drawer chain

Drawers trigger from the printer DK port, not the PC — check the cable between printer and drawer first, then the printer drawer-kick setting in its utility. New printer, same drawer: re-pair the kick code.

  3. 3. Keep a hot spare roll and a spare printer

Paper out mid-rush is a process failure, not bad luck: par levels on rolls plus one spare printer configured identically. Fifteen minutes of prep prevents Saturday-night disasters.

Wi-Fi dropouts or print-queue jams on a shared PC. Network the printer, give it a static IP, and route directly — no PC middleman.
