Screenshots & Screen Recording on Windows and Mac (No Extra Apps)

The built-in shortcuts for captures, scrolling shots, and recordings — plus where the files actually went.

  1. 1. Learn the three captures

Windows: Win+Shift+S for snips (rectangular, window, full). Mac: Cmd+Shift+4 for selection, Cmd+Shift+3 for full screen. Both copy to clipboard AND save — check Pictures/Screenshots or Desktop.

  2. 2. Record without installing anything

Windows: Win+Alt+R (Xbox Game Bar) records the active app. Mac: Cmd+Shift+5 opens the recorder with mic options. Trim in Photos/Clipchamp after — no watermarked free trials needed.

  3. 3. Share it so people can actually open it

Screenshots paste straight into email and chat. Videos go to OneDrive/Drive with a view link — never as 200MB email attachments that bounce and clog mailboxes.

Screenshots & Screen Recording on Windows and Mac (No Extra Apps) — When to Call a Pro

  • You need polished training videos — editing, captions, and hosting done for you.
  • Screen recording is blocked by policy on work machines.
  • Captures come out black (DRM content) and you need a legitimate alternative.
