Touchpad Gestures Stopped Working? Re-enable Them

Two-finger scroll dead, taps ignored, precision settings missing — driver vs settings in 3 minutes.

  1. 1. Check the hardware kill switch first

Many laptops have Fn+F-key touchpad toggles that get hit accidentally. Press it once and test. External mouse users disable touchpads and forget — Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Touchpad confirms the state.

  2. 2. Reinstall precision drivers

Device Manager → Human Interface Devices → right-click the touchpad → Uninstall (keep files), reboot. Windows pulls the precision driver back cleanly, restoring the gestures page that vanishes after updates.

  3. 3. Re-enable gestures individually

In Touchpad settings, re-check Tap, Two-finger scroll, and Three-finger gestures with your preferred actions. Updates reset these to defaults silently — your muscle memory isn't wrong, the settings are.
